
Manuel Menomussanga is a biologist, with over 15 years of technical and leadership experience engaging government, NGOs, and donor agencies in Environment, Natural Resources Management and Climate Change projects, having held the positions of Natural Resources Management Specialist and Coastal Zone Management Specialist at the former Mozambican Ministry for the Coordination of Environmental Affairs (MICOA) from 2004-2014. During 10 years, Manuel worked and coordinated several projects on Environment & Natural Resource Management; Biodiversity conservation and Management, Ecosystem restoration and management (focus on mangroves and coastal dunes); Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM); Climate Change Adaptation/Mitigation, including Climate Vulnerability Assessments and adaptation planning; design, implementation and monitoring of community adaptation and resilience projects and community-driven development. Manuel was also responsible for delivering community awareness and build the capacity of Community Based Organization such as Natural Resource Management Committees (CGRNs), Community Fisheries Councils, Savings and Credit Association(PCRs) and other identified community institutions, including through training, mentoring, supervised field exchange/demonstration visits, facilitated quarterly planning meetings and internal CGRN, CCPs and PCRs meetings - with focus on governance, financial management, business planning, planning and management, reporting, gender, rights, negotiation and conflict resolution. In the past 8 years Manuel moved to work with IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources), Mozambique Office as a Senior Program Officer, Resilient Coasts. He is responsible for the development and growth of the IUCN Mozambique’s Coastal and Marine Resilience program, managing existing marine projects and developing new ones, including negotiate project funding with potential donors.
