Tailing Storage Facility & Water Engineer

Twigg Exploration & Mining, LDA is recruiting a Tailing Storage Facility (TSF) & Water Engineer, to be based in Balama-Cabo Delgado, Mozambique.

Duties
  • The TSF & Water Engineer is responsible for contributing to the smooth commissioning and start-up of the Balama tailings storage and plant water facilities Once operational the TSF & Water Engineer is responsible for ensuring that tailings are deposited so as to prolong TSF life, optimise process water clarity and recovery and minimise the requirement for external water use The TSF & Water Engineer is directly responsible for the operation of the TSF and plant water infrastructure The TSF & Water Engineer is also responsible for the development of the technical and process operational team’s capability to manage the TSF and associated facilities
  • Undertake daily work area inspections and report/rectify faults/ issues immediately
  • Conduct take 5 and job hazard analysis assessments on work activities as required
  • Report all Hazards, Incidents and Near Misses in line with Company policies and procedures
  • Continually monitor the plant environment to ensure the safety of yourself and other workers
  • Make improvement recommendations to the Senior Team & continually increase the level of safety in the plant and other associated facilities
  • Contribute to the safety & environmental training of the Process Engineering Team to ensure 100% compliance at all times
  • Contribute to daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting and planning for the Process Engineering Team
  • Comply with the Company’s Environmental Social Monitoring Program Management Plan and Health Safety Management Plan requirements at all times
  • Provide ongoing reporting in relation to the condition of the TSF
  • Responsible for tailings deposition and distribution strategy
  • Lead for tailings embankment rises
  • Perform TSF audits, including operational reviews, data monitoring, regulatory reporting and site inspections
  • Continually monitor the performance of the process water facilities and readily address all issues
  • Actively and positively contribute in the commissioning of the Process Plant
  • Provide technical assistance to The Process Engineering team & Process Plant operational crews for the optimisation of process water recovery and quality
  • Ensure Engineering participation in shift handover activities as required
  • Ensure Engineering contribution to pre-start and toolbox sessions as required
  • Contribute to the daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting and planning for Process Operations
  • Provide technical advice and support to the Senior Team as required
  • Contribute to the daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly production planning process
  • Work with the Processing Team to ensure compliance to the production plan by planning for tailings deposition and required water consumption
  • Monitor production progress and ensure that sufficient water resources are available
  • Analyse delays and interruptions and accordingly adjust production schedule to meet deadlines
  • Organise & manage tailings and water surveys to ensure optimum operating conditions and continuous improvement at all times
  • Manage the development of strategies for resolving inefficiencies
  • Lead optimisation projects throughout the TSF and Processing Water Facilities
  • Make improvement recommendations to the Processing Team
  • Manage the daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting and planning for Process Improvement
  • Provide technical advice and support to the Senior Engineer as required
  • Oversee flocculent usage, optimising performance and cost benefit
  • Provide input to the design, development and ongoing maintenance of the Site Water Balance
  • Contribute to the daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly reporting and planning for Metallurgical Accounting
  • Provide technical advice and support to the Processing Teams as required
  • Coach and mentor all team members to build capability across our Mozambique workforce
  • Ensure own behavior is aligned with Company Values at all times
  • Contribute to the daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting and planning for the Process Engineering Team
  • Assist the Process Plant technical workforce in their learning, training and development
  • Contribute to daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting and planning as required
  • Contribute to the monthly reporting of all KPI’s
  • Manage and develop quality control policies and procedures
  • Manage the implementation of quality control methods
  • Prepare reports to communicate the investigated outcomes of quality non-conformances
  • Develop and manage an internal audit program for quality control
Requisites
  • Tertiary qualification in Geotech/Civil Engineering, Process Engineering or equivalent
  • 3 + years’ experience in a similar role
  • Previous experience operating tailings storage facilities, including deposition planning and embankment rises
  • Previous experience optimizing process water recovery, site water balance
  • Water storage design, construction, and operation experience
  • Plant start-up and commissioning experience highly desirable
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work cohesively with team members
  • Sound computer proficiency with intermediate MS Office skills & an advanced Excel skill level
  • Contractor management experience highly desirable
  • Fluent in English and Portuguese
