Software Development Manager

We are looking for a dynamic software engineer to lead the development and operation of an innovative SMS based platform, for a period of one year. You will be part of a small multicultural development team with people from Mozambique, Portugal and the Netherlands, and experts from very diverse areas that include health, marketing, logistics and software development.

If you are expert on AGILE project management and web development (i.e. SCRUM and Ruby on Rails), a good communicator in English and Portuguese, and you want to contribute to a very innovative project as part of a fast-paced organization we want to talk to you.

Movercado is an innovative SMS-based platform that has been in development and testing since 2011. It is managed as a functional spin-off within PSI Mozambique. Movercado is at the core of PSI integrated strategies functioning as a powerful tool that facilitates direct interaction with beneficiaries, validation of various interactions, voucher distribution and redemption, payment channel, stock management tool and much more.

Requisites

• Manage and coordinate resources and processes in order to deliver software releases, in an agile way, while participating in defining the strategy for the product development team by driving initiatives that deliver on the organization vision
• Work together with the Scrum Team and Product Owner to plan and execute the project to ensure that teams have appropriate product and technical specifications, direction, and resources to deliver products effectively by establishing realistic estimates for timelines while ensuring that projects remain on target to meet deadlines
• Work closely with the Product Owner to understand the system’s functional and nonfunctional requirements, including managing expectations, making decisions and communicating trade-offs and risks; drive key decisions across projects
• Provide ongoing project plan/status reporting for use by program managers, clients and top management
• Provide a software development plan that meets the future needs of our clients and markets, based on the state of the art technologies
• Lead the adoption of Scrum by the whole project team, by coaching them, coordinating release and sprint plans, and conducting periodic meetings
• Be part of the development team, coding as needed
• Monitor individual employees’ and subcontractors performance
• Provide leadership and guidance to coach, motivate, and lead team members to their optimum performance levels and career development
• Self-motivated, team player, action and results oriented
• Strong leadership, project management, time management, and problem solving skills
• Ability to successfully work under tight project deadlines
• Excellent verbal communication and writing skills required
• Excellent knowledge of verbal and written English
• Knowledge of Portuguese is an asset
• Prior experience in a fast-paced small company environment
• Ability to travel and live in Mozambique and abroad
• Minimum three years experience in managing software development projects
• Strong understanding of software development product life cycle from concept to delivery in a complex functional and technical environment
• Excellent programming, problem solving and debugging skills to troubleshoot complex deployments
• Experience with managing the development of SaaS and cloud-based applications
• Experience with Scrum method and Agile practices
• Web based application development and technologies, specifically in Ruby on Rails
