DAI is recruiting for an Internship, to be based in Maputo, Mozambique.
Description
  • The Supporting the Policy Environment for Economic Development (SPEED+) activity is a four-year (August 26, 2016 to August 25, 2020), $37.2 million project designed to improve the business enabling environment in Mozambique to attract investment, expand markets, and reduce costs, thus contributing to broad-based and inclusive economic growth and conservation of natural resources in Mozambique
  • SPEED+ will provide technical assistance and capacity-building to improve public-private policy dialogue, strengthen implementation of government policies and regulations, and support economic and structural policy reforms in four areas: 1) agriculture, 2) trade and investment, 3) power and water, and 4) biodiversity conservation
  • The SPEED+ Project in Mozambique, funded by USAID and managed by DAI and Nathan Associates, is seeking candidates for Internships in economics, law and business management
Duties
  • Responsibilities of the internship position shall be to support SPEED+ programmatic areas and project implementation. The intern will be involved in carrying out the following tasks:
  • Conduct research and reference searches on issues relating to economic governance, economic development, institution-building, political economy and SPEED+ general areas of work (agriculture, trade, power, water and biodiversity)
  • Compile, processes and works with economic and legal reform issues derived from a variety of sources
  • Support drafting of inputs to presentations, project documents and research papers as well as supports the organization of meetings
  • Support organization of workshops, seminars and other events, including assisting with invitations, event management, etc.
  • Survey and prepares reports on the economic and policy environment in Mozambique
  • Performs other duties assigned

  • Creativity - Actively seeks to improve programs or services; offers new and different options to solve problems or meet client needs; promotes and persuades others to consider new ideas; takes calculated risks on new and unusual ideas; thinks "outside the box"; takes an interest in new ideas and new ways of doing things; is not bound by current thinking or traditional approaches
  • Technological Awareness - Keeps abreast of available technology; understands applicability and limitations of technology to the work of the office; actively seeks to apply technology to appropriate tasks; shows willingness to learn new technology. Proficient in MS office applications and analytical software (e.g. STATA)
Requisites
  • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalente), or
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the SPEED+ project and have a personal commitment to the economic development goals of Mozambique
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views
  • English and Portuguese are the working languages of the SPEED+ project. For this internship, fluency in written and spoken English is required

  • Duration and Remuneration: Internships will last for 3 months and interns will be provided a small stipend
