Gender and SBCC Coordinator

Care International

Care International is recruiting a Gender and SBCC Coordinator, to be based in Nampula, Mozambique.
Duties
Ensure the quality and timely implementation of all activities in the province and district
  • Leading in taking responsibility with government actors regarding program planning, implementation, monitoring and management
  • Provide support to the Project Manager with the planning and scheduling of project timelines and track project deliverables, using appropriate CARE project management tools and support to provide regular updates on the project progress
  • Ensure that specific gender components of the project are implemented in order with objectives and results, both in relation to the implementation of the project and financial management
  • Ensure the implementation of the work plan according to the deadlines for each activity
  • Provide support in planning and conducting field activities and consultation meetings at district and province levels with the relevant stakeholders

  • Support the Project Manager in stakeholder engagement and in establishing and managing relationships with partners, third parties/vendors/ and consultants
  • Within the specific activities, take a leadership role in developing and/or adapting and rolling out gender-related materials and approaches
  • Ensure all tools, modules, documents, and training materials developed and/or adapted and used in relation with gender, social inclusion and women’s empowerment meet minimum quality standards (content should be technically sound) and are user-friendly and adapted to the audience they are targeting
  • Liaise closely with other agencies working in the same geographical regions and/or sectors to ensure coordination and avoid over-monitoring of activities
  • Support existing community groups, such as CBOs and women collectives working with and for the fulfilment of women’s rights
Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation, Learning
  • Support M&E and Learning Officer other projects, etc in the development of monitoring and evaluation systems and tools (including baseline and end-line tools) to ensure that appropriate indicators that measure gender-related dynamics, social inclusion and women’s empowerment are used by staff and partners
  • Document experience and impact in relation to gender equity, women’s empowerment and social inclusion with particular attention to documenting lessons learnt, what works, what needs to improve and the evidence of change
  • Ensure timely and quality narrative reporting according to donor and CARE timeline assessing results against set targets for the gender, social inclusion, and women’s empowerment commitments
  • Prepare and maintain all necessary documents of the activities and share as appropriate
  • Ensure the follow-up on statistic reports of monthly activities, and district service reports and evaluate areas for quality improvement
  • Ensure the recording of information at the different stages of the project, archiving data qualitatively and quantitatively
Training and Technical Assistance
  • With the support of the Nutrition Coordinator organize and carry out relevant and appropriate training sessions for local partners, volunteers, communities, leaders’ mothers and other caregivers
  • Provide support to the partners in the design of the training to be provided to the participants of all gender-related activities
  • Facilitate technical training for beneficiaries to implement income-generating activities and gender
  • Ensure that dynamic participatory facilitation skills are always used to integrate these
  • Ensure technical support to local partners and other CARE projects when solicited
Coordination and networking
  • The SBCC and Gender Coordinator will work closely with all staff to ensure that gender issues are fully considered and addressed in all project components
  • Establishing good working relationships with local society, district government organs and other stakeholders
  • Regular communication with Civil Society Forum and make them active as pressure groups Participate in the development of detailed project implementation plans and related budgets to ensure gender is taken into consideration throughout the project life cycle
  • Collaborate with colleagues from program support to ensure logistics for all training, and capacity building, have been prepared and organized in line with CARE’s & the donor’s internal procedures and to create the best possible environment and conditions for participants in these different events
  • Liaise regularly with GAIN team to follow up on CASCADE activities and ensure the sharing of relevant data and strategic information for efficient synergy between CARE and GAIN activities
  • Liaise with the SBCC working group at the provincial and district level to share relevant data from the CASCADE project and support the government’s SBCC strategy implementation
  • Work closely with CBO, community leaders, volunteers, implementation facilitators, caregivers, and communities in general in the project activities and disclosure
Reporting
  • Support the district supervisor to prepare monthly reports and timely submit them to the immediate supervisor using a template preferably prepared by CARE provincial team
  • Ensure that sub-partners receive their funding on time and submit their progress reports as recommended
Requisites
  • Professional university degree in a relevant area e.g., public health or nutrition, sociology, Social Anthropology, Gender in Development, Rural Development Studies, or related fields
  • 5 years’ experience in a similar position in the field of gender and women’s empowerment in rural settings, preferably at least 2 in Mozambique
  • Familiar with national gender programming and SBCC strategies
  • Prior experience in behavior changes and communication strategies related to gender norms Very strong community facilitation skills and familiarity with gender tools and approaches
  • Experience conducting gender analysis at the community level
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Effective Communication skills & people skills
  • Fluent in English / Portuguese (written and verbal) essential and fluent in at least one of the idioms the locals speak of those in the province of Nampula
  • Strong understanding of gender and inequality issues
  • Enjoys working directly with communities
