Foreman – Steel Structure (m/f)

Duties

• Plans, organizes, schedules, supervises, and inspects the work of skilled and semi-skilled subordinates engaged in repair and maintenance work requiring the services of any skilled trades worker necessary to preserve or maintain the buildings
• Estimates labor and material costs, maintains cost records, requisitions materials, supplies, and equipment
• Exercises judgement on deficiencies contained in prepared inspection reports and assesses degree and method of repair and estimated time and materials; requisitions materials and supplies and implements corrective action
• Supervises shop area, shop equipment, and trucks equipped for maintenance work
• Establishes standards for safety and performance for subordinates and inspects quantity and quality of work against these standards
• Lays out work as specified in inspection reports, sketches, or oral instructions
• Coordinates with all Physical Plant Foremen the requirements needed to accomplish maintenance undertakings
• Maintains shop stock material inventory, labor, and time costs
• Performs related work as required

Requisites

• High school
• 5+ years experience
• Ability to effectively supervise skilled workers
• Ability to interpret and work from penciled sketches, drawings, plans, and blue prints
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to make and project material and labor estimates
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing and orally
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other university personnel
