Johanniter International Assistance

Johanniter International Assistance is recruiting a Food Security and Livelihoods Officer, to be based in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique.
Duties
Strategy and Vision
  • Actively supports the values of Johanniter and shapes programme work according to these values. Together with the Senior Programs Manager and Project Manager, ensures the development and implementation of the Johanniter International Assistance strategy in her/his area of responsibility
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of the country strategy of Johanniter International Assistance
Livelihoods
  • Responsible for the implementation of all Food Security and Livelihoods activities at the field level
  • Actively contributes to the technical design of all Food Security and Livelihoods activities
  • Provides technical guidance on income generation, market analysis, as well as disaster risk reduction activities
  • Review and develops beneficiary selection criteria with local authorities, and community members to identify project beneficiaries according to JIA’s and food insecure vulnerability and target criteria
  • Compiles Food Security and Livelihoods related project data and produces regular reports and updates
  • Supports the integration and communication with other sectors: WASH, Health & Nutrition activities
  • Ensures good working relationship with local leaders and other stake holders
  • Produces weekly and quarterly activity work plans
  • Provides technical support in the sensitization of targeted beneficiaries on Food Security and livelihood related materials and develops technical training modules
  • Support economic livelihoods and capacity building activities for partner communities
  • Identify and design interventions that link the restoration of essential services with livelihood opportunities for community stability
  • Ensure that the market potential in the region is assessed with an aim of improving on the existing systems and water management practices for increased crop production and farm productivity
  • Promote development of local policies that support improved food and nutrition habits for infants, young children, youth and women
  • Contribute to data collection, food security and livelihood inputs distributions and monitoring of beneficiary trends
  • Support engagement of communities in improved nutrition practice including promotion of traditional food security structures
Monitoring and Reporting
  • Responsible for monitoring the impact of the project, promote learning, support decision making and documentation of best practices
  • Produces weekly and monthly activities progress reports (quantities and qualitative)
  • Compiles Food Security and Livelihoods related project data and produces regular reports and updates
  • Provides inputs and assists in writing donor reports
  • Responsible for generating lessons learned and success stories as per JIA’s procedures
  • Implements action plan for quality monitoring
Capacity building
  • Develops partner communities and organizations capacities for creating economic livelihoods and capacity building activities for partner communities and partner organizations
  • Build up the capacity of project team on skill based innovative sustainable livelihood community models, as well as nutrition practices
Protection
  • Contributes to an inclusive work environment
  • Actively promotes and fosters the rights and social positioning of vulnerable groups (women, children, elderly, persons with disability) and ensures their active participation in projects
  • Mobilizing and making communities aware on project objectives, outputs and activities and MEAL systems and Child Safeguarding Policies
Requisites
  • Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Agricultural economics, Economics or Agribusiness
  • Minimum 3 years of proven work experience in similar position
  • Experience of working in the field/areas of food security, agriculture, income genera-tion, climate change and disaster risk reduction
  • Experience working with INGO, UN agencies or the Red Cross in Mozambique
  • Understanding and experience of sustainable livelihood and food security programs
  • Knowledge and abilities about the alignment of health and nutrition with food security and livelihoods programs
  • Full commitment to humanitarian principles, gender equality, and the rights of displaced persons and protection of children
  • Proven previous experience working with displaced people
  • Skills:
  • Familiarity with Food Security and Livelihoods programming
  • Professional technical skill desired training in Agriculture, income generation and climate change
  • Proactive and problem-solving attitude
  • Willingness to work in areas receiving displaced people in Cabo Delgado
  • Good planning and analytical skills
  • Good leadership and supervisor skills
  • Good report writing skills
  • Excellent computer skills and competency in Microsoft Office
  • Detail-oriented individual with good multi-tasking abilities and good communication skills, both oral and written
  • Fluent in Portuguese. Dominion Knowledge of the local languages desired, Intermediate level of English is an advantage asset
  • Proactive, open-minded and creative individual able to find innovative solutions to challenges
  • Able to work well both within a team and independently; culturally sensitive and flexible to adjust quickly to challenging and fast-changing context; coping well with stress and in intense and difficult environment
  • Committed, mature individual able to take responsibilities and make decisions in a transparent and accountable way; ability to set clear objectives and successfully achieve them
