Food Safety Officer (m/f)

Description

• We are a South African company with extensive experience in edible oil and health food manufacturing. We have recently opened a coconut processing facility near Morrumbene, Inhambane Province
• The Food Safety Officer is expected to run a Food Safety System at our facility. The facility produces organic coconut oil, coconut flour, coconut chips and desiccated coconut
• At a minimum, the Food Safety System will be HACCP, but likely also FSA and/or FSSC 22000. In addition to running our food safety system, the Food Safety Officer will be responsible for overall quality management at our site. Currently, we have a team of 50 employees, but this is increasing quickly. As needed, we will consider hiring assistants to the Food Safety Officer as the operation expands
• As our products are primarily for the export market, an excellent quality management system is very important to us

Duties

• In addition to managing the food safety systems themselves, the Food Safety Officer will be responsible for:
• Chairing the company quality committee
• Managing internal and external audits of our facilities
• Ensuring compliance with all applicable food safety regulations
• Ensuring finished product complies with all relevant specifications, including physical, microbiological and sensory requirements, which includes basic physical and microbiological testing on site
• The Food Safety Officer will receive support from an experienced team based in South Africa

Requisites

• Requirements/qualifications for this role include the following:
• Able to communicate in English and Portuguese
• A tertiary qualification (degree or diploma) in Food Science, Microbiology or Biological Sciences will be highly preferred
• At least 2 years’ experience operating in a Food Safety System is required
• The candidate must be willing to relocate to Morrumbene, where the company will assist in finding suitable accommodation
• The ability to do basic physical and microbiological testing will be an advantage
