- World Education, a division of JSI Research and Training Institute (JSI/WE) is dedicated to improving people’s lives around the world through greater health, education, and socioeconomic equity for individuals and communities, to providing an environment where people of passion can pursue this cause. JSI/WE is seeking a Training Specialist for the National Youth Institute’s (INJ) upcoming Eu Sou Capaz Project. This regional initiative - to be implemented in Mozambique jointly with the Ministry of Labor, Gender, and Social Action (MTGAS) and the INJ - aims to increase girls’ and women’s educational attainment and earning, and to strengthen institutional capacity to implement gender equality policies. This position is contingent upon an award from the INJ
- The Community Engagement Specialist is a consultancy position based in Maputo and will report to the Team Lead. The Community Engagement Specialist will lead the development and implementation of activities that engage community structures such as mentors, school focal persons, and other community activists
Duties
- Develop and ensure the implementation of the project community entry and engagement strategy
- In collaboration with the Training Specialist, ensure consistent, high quality training delivery to project partners, including government and local partners on community engagement
- Employ a proven capacity building approach for local community structures partnering with the project to ensure sustainability of the project interventions
- Collaborate effectively with INJ and MTGAS counterparts on community engagement activities while building their capacity
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Team Lead
Requisites
- Master’s degree in anthropology, sociology, public health, community development, or a related field
- Minimum of 8 years of experience (preferably in Mozambique) in advocacy, community mobilization, and social and behavioral change communications in the context of sexual and reproductive health of adolescent girls and young women
- Deep knowledge of the institutional, social, and cultural reality of Mozambique required
- Excellent communication skills. Fluency in Portuguese and English is required
- Proven experience and knowledge of community mobilization techniques
- Proven experience in strengthening local or community structures in organizational and technical capacity
