  • Program Description: TechnoServe Mozambique is working with Sida to design and implement a two-year program, called Women IN Business-WIN (2023-2025). WIN has an ambitious goal of empowering women across Mozambique by making sustainable improvements to their participation in the market place
  • WIN uses a market systems development approach (“MSD”) to support the growth and efficiency of women in business. WIN works with partners across the public and private sector to invest in changes that benefit its target group, that are: (i) Rural women living and working outside of Maputo and provincial capitals; (ii)Young women (18-35 years old) but not exclusive to this age group; (iii) Low income micro entrepreneurs and  (iv) women in agribusinesses.   • The Business Advisor will work independently with some support from the Market Systems Manager to define and execute a strategy for one or more market systems under the WIN Program. Typically, the strategy will involve a series of interventions. Under each intervention, the Business Advisor will work with a small number of private and public sector actors within the market system, to prove the business case for changing their approach in favor of women owned businesses, either in the agricultural or in non-agricultural sectors (micro-entrepreneurship) and then, try to crowd in other actors to replicate the change
Duties
  • Hold discussions with women and stakeholders to identify business needs and map out solutions
  • Establishing and managing partnerships (mainly with agro-businesses) with an impact on the program, on female small holder farmers and micro-entrepreneurs. This entails:
  • Developing all partnership documents (strategy, agreement, budget, MEL plan)
  • Supervising activities and workplan execution
  • Overseeing partner budget execution
  • With support from the Knowledge and Results Manager, monitor and evaluate the progress of sector activities
  • Support with managing external contractors and sub-grantees
  • When relevant, conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of the business case for engaging women in WIN's sectors of interest, and synthesize findings from research and analysis - with support from the team
  • Represent the program at networking and relationship meetings with private and public actors
Requisites
  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in Economics, Statistics, Agronomy/Agribusiness, Business Management, Marketing, Finance and Accounting or related fields with 3 years experience or Master’s Degree with 1 year experience
  • At least 3 experience working in the private sector in agriculture, gender, work in rural areas, northern provinces, management consulting, market research, financial services or related fields, or in an NGO/government role with orientation towards private sector development
  • Autonomous, self-driven, highly pro-active and high sense of responsibility
  • Commitment to advancing gender equality
  • Confident and sensitive in communications with clients and stakeholders
  • Able to conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Experience in contributing to well-written reports and presentations
  • Knowledge and experience in Market Systems Development approach (MSD) is an advantage
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience in agriculture, northern provinces and gender
  • Fluent in Portuguese and English
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Extremely curious, hard-working and driven
  • Well-composed and humble, in the company of senior executives and also low-income populations
  • Exceptional investigator and asker of questions
  • Sensitive to the drivers of social or economic exclusion e.g. due to gender or age and committed to the reduction of social and economic inequalities
  • Contributes innovative and creative ways of thinking and working
  • Maintains integrity and personal reputation
  • Is a self-starter, energetic and friendly
