Grindrod is recruiting a Transport Manager, to be based in Nacala, Mozambique.
Duties
  • To ensure that all processes are documented, implemented and reviewed, and all administration and people matters are efficiently handled to enable an optimal and efficient Transport operation in line with the relevant regulatory and legal compliance
  • Process Management:
  • Manages the processes for: Local cartage Delivery and Collections
  • Distribution
  • Loose Bulk
  • Sub – Contractor Selection
  • Trailer Management
  • Demurrage prevention
  • Critical Outcomes:
  • All processes must be documented, implemented and reviewed
  • All processes are optimal and efficient
  • People Management:
  • Resourcing of the operation with management of a combination of flexible and non- flexible staff
  • Supervision of staff
  • Develop and motivate staff
  • Monitor and coordinate activities and performance of staff
  • Training and development
  • Critical Outcomes:
  • Optimally resourced efficient operation
  • Compliance:
  • Coordination and management of activities that ensure relevant compliance in the following areas:
  • Occupational compliance
  • Road Traffic Act
  • Rail Safety
  • Mine Safety
  • Transportation of Hazardous goods
  • TFR Requirements
  • ISO 9001, 14001, 18001 and 22000
  • Internal financial controls
  • Critical Outcomes:
  • A fully compliant operation that meets group, regulatory and legal requirements
  • Quality Control:
  • Evaluate and monitor the quality of processes and implement corrective action:
  • ISO 9001
  • Customer specific standard
  • Internal
  • Housekeeping
  • Critical Outcomes:
  • Operational activities are carried out with the relevant quality level that are in line with industry standards and meet audit requirements
  • Administration:
  • Approve and implement corrective action where necessary in relation to the following reports:
  • Approve purchase orders in line with Limits of Authority
  • Prepare and submit agreed performance indicators within the agreed timeframe
  • Provide input into the budget process
  • Conduct and plan self-audits
  • Sub-contractor
  • Critical Outcomes:
  • All administrative functions efficiently handled and adequately completed on time
  • Operational Execution:
  • Receive instruction form customer services
  • Planning, assessment of work load, prioritisation
  • Allocate resources and issue instructions
  • Internal and external interaction with relevant stakeholders
  • Monitor progress and take corrective action to ensure productivity
  • Processing of relevant documentation to conclude the operational process
  • Critical Outcomes:
  • Delivery of operational service excellence
Requisites
  • Certificate, degree or diploma in Logistics/Supply chain discipline or similar
  • 3 years or more experience in transport management
  • Good knowledge of the geographical region
  • Exposure to managing outsourced sub-contractors and drivers
  • Technically sound in Transport Management
