Adra Mozambique is recruiting a Senior Project Manager, to be based in Nacala-Porto, Mozambique.

  • The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is a global humanitarian agency comprised of over 120 supporting and implementing country offices, operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church to provide individual and community development and disaster relief. ADRA is committed to human rights, gender equality, children’s rights safeguarding as well the engagement of the most vulnerable groups ADRA in partnership with Rare (lead organization) plans to receive a four-year contract from the Blue Action Fund (BAF) for the project entitled: Coastal Lifeline – A provincial approach to the empowerment of Fisher-Farmer Communities to adopt Nature-based Solutions in Mozambique. The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the conservation of a network of globally significant coastal and marine protected areas and their sustainable use zones, improving ecosystem services that contribute to reducing the risks of climate change for vulnerable communities. To do this, the project will:
  • Improve resources, equipment and capabilities for the management and sustainable use of Marine Protected Areas
  • Increase the resilience of infrastructure and the built environment to climate change
  • Reinforce adaptive capacity and reduce exposure to climate risks
  • Rehabilitate degraded coastal ecosystems
  • Increase climate resilience and sustainable livelihoods for communities
  • Improve the knowledge, experience and capacity of relevant national agencies to use Ecosystem-Based
  • Adaptation (EBA) approaches to coastal zone management
  • Strengthen institutional and regulatory systems for climate-responsive planning and development
  • The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of project, while remaining aligned with ADRA’s strategy, commitments and goals. He/She provides managerial and technical support throughout the implementation of the program cycle, including coordination with the client, government entities, stakeholders and other service providers
  • Among specific roles, the Senior Project Manager will undertake: Pulling together and Leading Program Team - he will ensure that all program staff performs their duties assigned to them, complying with deadlines, according to the regular plans, provide them the tools to collaborate effectively
  • Planning Program Resources: he will ensure the achievement of the goals and objectives of the program, aligning with the organization’s overall business strategy focused on the BAF and determining available resources, estimating time and financial commitment, as well as monitor and report on the program’s progress
  • Quality and Satisfaction: the Senior Project Manager will develop tools and strategies to ensure continuous communications with various stakeholders in alignment with the Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP), reporting on progress and being open to their feedback and to keep them satisfied with milestone achievements to ensure their full collaboration
  • Manage Issues and Risk: he/she will be ready to solve emerging problems and mitigate risks to the program in the field, in permanent consultation with ADRA senior management, where necessary; he/she will have a far-reaching sight to allow a forecast of potential problems and risks, so that he/she and his/her team can set in place a plan of action to mitigate them
  • Monitoring Progress: he/she will ensure permanent program monitoring, through the MEAL Officer, to make sure a program is progressing as planned including local Partner NGOs interventions under their responsibility. Monthly reports will be expected of him, reflecting on the program progress and metrics through the project systems including PROCOM

Requisites
  • Master degree or higher in a relevant field including, Environment Eng., Ecosystem Management, Agriculture, Rural Development or other relevant areas
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain effective working relations with communities
  • At least 8 years of experience managing livelihood and ecosystem-based adaptation projects in communities
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in Portuguese and English
  • Have previous experience working in Conservation Areas is an advantage
  • Experience in strategic planning, risk management and/or change management
  • Critical thinking and problem solving
  • Excellent decision-making and leadership capabilities
