Path is recruiting a Senior Nutrition Advisor, to be based in Maputo, Mozambique.

Duties
  • Represent MCSP at national level nutrition coordinating committees, technical meetings, and nutrition working groups, when they are organized, and advocate for best practices in nutrition prevention and treatment at health facilities and in communities
  • Lead the coordination with nutrition partners, including UNICEF and donors, supporting nutrition to coordinate activities and strategic priorities, ensuring the global and country vision is aligned with provincial nutrition activities
  • Provide leadership on the nutrition program’s monitoring and evaluation (M&E) to identify and ensure nutrition indicators and targets are in accordance with national and USG standards and latest global evidence and standards
  • Provide technical leadership on both prevention and treatment of malnutrition at the facility and community level that is sound, evidence-based, and responsive to the needs of the Government of Mozambique and USAID
  • Provide oversight and ensure the technical quality of nutrition activities in Nampula and Sofala
  • Advocate with other ministries, community, NGO’s, and religious leaders to support and promote nutrition prevention and treatment at health facilities and to make referral links community-facility-community and for community workers to refer malnourished children and other children at risk to the facility; as well as track children who have been remediated
  • Responsible for annual work planning, training plans and quarterly reports and other required technical or other reports, as needed, working closely with the MCSP Nutrition Team based in Washington DC
  • Responsible for timely, accurate and appropriate reporting of nutrition program activities and results, working closely with the MCSP Nutrition Team based in Washington DC
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction in nutrition for the Mozambique MCSP program
  • Provide technical oversight to workplan activities with a nutrition component, including program design, implementation, quality assurance, linkages, and monitoring of both the community-based and facility-based nutrition components, including any SBCC activities and formative work, working closely with the MCSP nutrition provincial team and DC team
  • Ensure financial stewardship of USAID funds by complying with financial requirements and helping to create a culture of compliance
  • Ensure program implementation and progress of the nutrition component against deliverables on a quarterly basis
  • Ensure quality program implementation consistent with MOH Guidelines and USAID Mozambique Strategic Directions
  • Lead the coordination with the other members of the technical team and NGO partners to develop feasible facility and community-based approaches
  • Participate as a member of the MCSP Senior Management Team as PATH’s representative, to provide strategic oversight of MCSP’s nutrition efforts
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor which contribute to the achievement of program
Requisites
  • Advanced knowledge and skills of the most up-to-date scientific evidence on effective interventions in nutrition
  • Demonstrated ability to build capacity and collaboration between governmental and non-governmental partners and other project implementers
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a complex, multi-intervention health development and multi-partner program in collaboration with national health ministries and international partners
  • Familiarity with evidence-based reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health interventions and best practices that will be the focus of this project
  • Personal and professional commitment to gender equality
  • Proven capacity to plan, analyze and ensure routine monitoring of work plans
  • Ability to travel to and within Nampula province up to 15-20% and occasionally to Sofala
  • Experience supervising staff
  • Strong change management, results-oriented and decision-making skills
  • Excellent written, interpersonal and oral communication/presentation skills, including the ability to work effectively with a diverse team of staff HQ and field based partners and counterparts
  • Portuguese fluency (verbal and written) required
  • Ability to communicate verbally in and read English
  • Mozambican nationals strongly encouraged to apply
  • A nutritionist with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition (or Master of Science) or a nurse or doctor with special courses on at least three nutrition topics (e.g., nutrition rehabilitation of children severe or moderate malnutrition, infant and young child feeding including, breastfeeding and complementary feeding, micro nutrient supplementation/deficiencies, anemia) with at least 5 years working as a nutritionist (at the national or provincial level) or in positions where nutrition interventions were frequently implemented
  • Experience in the development and implementation of strategic nutrition technical approaches in collaboration with other stakeholders who may represent a wide range of interests and needs; Experience in developing/designing/writing practical technical resources in nutrition (e.g., training packages, job aids, behavior change communication materials, etc.)
  • Experience working at the provincial level
  • Prior experience working with Mozambique’s public health system
  • Knowledge of the relationship between gender inequality and nutritional outcomes
  • Fluency in speaking and writing in English
  • Prior experience working with USAID funded projects
