Johanniter International Assistance is recruiting a Senior Logistics Officer, to be based in Pemba, Mozambique.

  • Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V. is a German non-governmental organization, dedicated to excellence in the field of first aid, ambulance service, social service programs and other projects in the medical and social field. The Federal Headquarters (HQ) are based in Berlin, Germany. Johanniter International Assistance is the operational unit for humanitarian aid, development co-operation and emergency relief, implementing and supporting projects in Health, Nutrition, WASH as well as Food Security & Income Generation world-wide.   • The Job holder will manage and support the provision of logistics support to the programme in Pemba Mozambique while ensuring compliance to donor, organisational policies and procedures for effective programme delivery. H/She will be responsible for procurements, asset management, warehouse and inventory management, facilities and fleet management in close collaboration with the programme teams and Logistics Coordinator

  • Actively supports the values of Johanniter and shapes the work of the logistics team ac-cording to these values
  • Support the implementation of the country logistics strategy in line with the global JIA strategy
Duties
Operations and Logistics management (90%)
  •  Compile and review relevant monthly logistics reports in accordance to Johanniter policies and procedures
  •  Manage the contract register and oversea timely payment processing for active/continuing contracts and update the contract tracker with the same
  • Support the Logistics Coordinator in setting up strategic sourcing initiatives such as set-ting up framework agreements for commonly used items, pre-qualification, vendor data-base management and tenders
  • Review and certify vendor invoices/documents before submission for signature and to finance
  • Act as the principal liaison between vendors, Johanniter and user departments
  • Ensure that the procurement tracker is updated on a weekly basis and shared with staff/user departments
  • Provide capacity building to junior logistics staff and develop usable tools and standard operating procedures (SOP’s) to facilitate work
  • Routinely check that systems put in place are working and suggest process improvement changes to improve business operations and accountability
  • Navigate bottlenecks to effective service delivery within the logistics department and advise staff on the best course of action
  • Ensure that staff submit their respective inputs according to the department’s Calendar of Events
  • Engage with programme staff to provide timely delivery of logistics support to programmes
  • Process procurement request in a timely manner while ensuring completeness, accuracy, and regular follow up in collaboration with programme and finance department
  • Maintain accurate filing systems, with documented and supported records of logistics transactions for audit purposes both manually and electronically
  • Document allocation of assets and ensure that they are tracked, labelled, operated in the most cost efficient manner, and maintained appropriately

  • Perform any other duties and task as maybe assigned by the Logistics Manager/Coordinator
Requisites
  • Professional Qualification and Experience
  • Relevant BSc or diploma preferably in Logistics/Supply Chain Management or Business Management or a related field from a recognized University
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar position with INGOs in Mozambique
  • Good knowledge and understanding of procurement and logistics procedures
  • Experience working in a busy logistics department within an INGO
  • Remains productive when under pressure
  • Demonstrates a systematic and effective approach to work
  • Works collaboratively with team members to achieve results
  • Relates and works well with people of different cultures, gender and backgrounds
  • Good communication skills
  • Should be able to plan his/her own work on daily/weekly/monthly basis
  • Should be able to submit reports on time
  • Team player
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong working knowledge of English (spoken and written) is an asset
