GAIN is recruiting a School Feeding and WASH Associate/Consultant (m/f), to be based in Beira, Mozambique.
Description
  • The School Feeding and WASH Associate/Consultant will support the implementation of WASH – Water, Sanitation & Hygiene and School Feeding workstreams with the aim of reducing health risks for affected populations in the areas of WASH while also providing meals to targeted schools. GAIN’s approach to this workstream will, in principle, be to engage a local partner to implement WASH and School Feeding as a combined offering in schools. Thus, the Associate/Consultant is both expected to be able to give specialized technical support and monitor implementation in collaboration with implementing partners
  • Cooperation and coordination with local governments, implementing partners or other NGOs is a vital element as well as being able to write reports. The Associate/Consultant will support GAIN Mozambique’s Post-IDAI project team, under the supervision of the Reconstructing Food Systems Post Cyclone (RFS) Project Manager in Beira. This is a 3-month position based in Beira, with possibility of extension to December 2020
Duties
  • Support the design or adjustment of an implementation model that integrates school-based WASH and school feeding in partnership with the Ministry/Provincial Directorate of Education and Human Development
  • Act as focal point to WASH and school feeding issues and liaise with relevant actors in different stages of WASH and school feeding workstreams to follow up on agreements and recommendations
  • Consolidate and provide technical guidance and support to implementing partners on all WASH promotion related issues and school feeding, to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness in their implementation
  • Work with relevant stakeholders to strengthen capacity to manage commodities and school feeding activities at all levels of implementation
  • Work with partners to ensure WASH and/or school feeding implementing partners/Government meet their deliverables and monitor distribution at schools
  • Work with the Government to ensure proper reporting of activities and support with progress monitoring of the project
  • Ensure food safety and quality principles are adhered to
  • Ensure school councils receive training in school-based health, nutrition, and hygiene education
  • Contribute to the budgeting process and give inputs to the financial management of the programme on technical areas
  • Provide weekly reports and input to the Project Manager on progress and results of interventions and activities
  • Support the Memorandum of Understanding process with government institutions if required
  • Other tasks related to the implementation of the Post-IDAI portfolio, as required by GAIN
  • Mozambique’s Post-IDAI Project Manager
  • Support other GAIN project activities in Beira as required
Requisites
  • Knowledge of WASH management including FSQ – Food Safety and Quality
  • Knowledge of social assistance and school feeding
  • Knowledge in providing project support and monitoring
  • Strong analytical and training skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of professionalism and integrity
  • Systematic thinking with demonstrated good sense of judgement, problem solving and creativity
  • Computer literacy with good Excel, MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint skills
  • Professional technical experience matching the above-mentioned duties and responsibilities
  • At least 3 years’ experience, preferably in development programs
  • Experience in working in School Feeding and WASH is an advantage
  • Experience in working with FSQ is an advantage
  • Experience in working with Government officials in Mozambique is an advantage
  • Experience in coordination and consensus building within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience in working under pressure and to deliver under short deadlines
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Either Water, Sanitation & Health Engineering; Nutrition; Food Science; Health; Social Assistance and related course with relevant experience is an advantage
  • Fluent verbal and written Portuguese
  • Fluent verbal and written English
  • Right to work in Mozambique
