Description
  • The U.S. Mission in Maputo/Mozambique is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Public Health Specialist (Women’s Health Advisor) within the office of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
Duties
  • The Women’s Health will serve as the primary CDC expert on cervical cancer, and specialist for implementing the congressionally mandated cervical cancer screening and prevention (CECAP) program through CDC and the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) in Mozambique
  • The CECAP program is a high priority program for select PEPFAR countries, and countries and receives an earmarked yearly operating budget set by congress
  • The Advisor will need to engage with high level officials in the Ministry of Health (MoH), other PEPFAR donor agencies (U.S. Agency for International Development [USAID] and the Department of Defense (DoD), international multilateral partners such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the private sector (e.g. MD Anderson Cancer Center) to provide comprehensive public health technical and managerial advice and assistance on the implement the National Roadmap to cervical cancer elimination. He or she will be responsible for overseeing implementation of CECAP activities across 5 CDC clinical implementing partners and 7 Provincial Directorates of Health providing CECAP services in 7 provinces throughout Mozambique, as well as to 1 partner providing central level program support to the MoH on overall national program vision and execution, and to the MoH itself. Finally, the Women’s Health Advisor will provide cross cutting support to CDC’s HIV Prevention Branch on Gender Based Violence, and the Care and Treatment Branch on psychosocial support of women living with HIV and provide expertise and technical assistance on other activities pertaining to maternal and child health that are deemed important by the MCH Branch Chief
