Oxfam is recruiting a Public Health Promotion (PHP) Assistant (m/f), to be based in Macomia, Mozambique.
Description
  • Oxfam is a global movement of people working together to end the injustice of poverty. For our work in the Idai/Kenneth Humanitarian response we are looking for a Public Health Promotion (PHP) Assistant
  • Contract Duration: Until 31/03/2020
Duties
Need Assessment
  • Participate in conducting WASH need assessments and community mappings to help understand communities WASH related needs
  • Participated in PHAST approach activities and assessment for longer term action
Program implementation
  • Assist in the development and implementation of PHP activities within the catchment area
  • Actively listen to communities and support them to design solutions to WASH and other public health issues and give recommendations to the PHP area officer
  • Be responsible for identifying Activistas and community volunteers (e.g. WASH committees and hygiene promoters), supervising, supporting and training them in a defined geographical area, as defined by the PHP TL / PHP Officer
  • Manage the work of assigned Activistas or other identified community associations/groups, taking responsibility for monitoring quality of work, resolving issues (with support of the officer where required) and required paperwork for payment
Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning
  • Ensure regular feedback and understanding of context – especially related to hygiene practices/community belief and perceptions
  • Monitor promotion part of WASH committees as well as local institutions and health centers working as part of the long-term program
Integration, coordination and transversal aspects
  • Work with other team members of Oxfam (WASH e.g. PHE and non-WASH e.g. EFSVL & Gender & Protection) working in the same communities, to ensure the integration and complementarity of the different sector of the intervention
  • Ensure the integration of aspect related to gender, protection, environment and other crosscutting issues to the implementation of WASH activities, and ensure that activities consider the needs of specific groups and individuals, especially children, elderly and disabled people
Requisites
  • We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:
  • Competencies in communication and understanding of community dynamics are more essential than a formal qualification; however qualifications in public health, community health, social sciences or anthropology are highly desirable
  • Fluency in Portuguese and local language relevant for Oxfam’s zones of intervention
  • Good reading and writing skills in Portuguese and English would be an added advantage
  • Experience in working with communities and knowledge of public health issues and/or WASH
  • Experience of working with NGOs in emergency response is also highly desirable
