Description
  • PSI is seeking a dynamic team leader and a doer for the position of Project Director, someone with a talent for managing successful HIV programs by aligning teams and stakeholders to deliver results. He/she must have experience as a programmatic and technical leader in HIV projects, with a track-record of building trust among diverse stakeholders, including other HIV implementing partners, to achieve complex outcomes, as well as in engaging communities to inform and support HIV programs. The Project Director is expected to serve as a great manager who knows how to lead talented teams to deliver and should be ready to roll up his/hers sleeves to get the job done when needed
Duties
  • Support positive and durable government and donor relations, through meaningful and extensive stakeholder engagement and participation in the key project milestones
  • Meet regularly with donors and government officials to ensure that project deliverables are met in on time, informed by stakeholder perspectives, and disseminated widely
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to design, plan, and implement project activities, including scale-up of existing interventions, implementation of new activities, monitoring and evaluation, and dissemination of findings
  • Ensure the timeliness and quality of all activities
  • Based upon the project workplan, lead in budget development, provide budget oversight and ensure on-time and high-quality reporting for the project
  • Manage and guide the PSI team, internal and external partners to ensure efficient, quality and timely implementation of all the project deliverables
  • Demonstrate proactive coordination with other PSI Mozambique departments who contribute to project implementation including Evidence, Quality of Care, and Business
  • Operations, and with the PSI global HIV team for technical guidance and support
  • Develop and maintain effective and persuasive relationships with key counterparts within facilities, implementing partners, and government offices to ensure successful implementation and monitoring of activities
Requisites
  • A master’s degree or higher in one of the following or related fields: public health, clinical service delivery, epidemiology, health promotion or other related fields, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Minimum of 10 years professional experience working in development
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in HIV project management (including financial management), within developing countries’ governments, CSOs, NGOs
  • Exceptional managerial and operational experience, preferably managing projects involving coordination with multiple program partner institutions and experience with USAID
  • Broad understanding of public health in Mozambique with in-depth knowledge of HIV in the local context
  • Experience representing HIV programs to national government, donors, civil society and the media
  • Experience managing, motivating and guiding teams to implement and deliver with quality
  • Experience managing external partners to implement activities designed by others
  • Experience in cultivating stakeholder relationships representing a broad range of functions and levels including with donors, government agencies, partner staff, and other NGOs
  • Strong preference for a citizen of Mozambique
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills in English and Portuguese, extensive computer skills, interpersonal and cross-cultural skills, and be highly motivated and organized
