Namati’s Community Land Protection Program is seeking an organized, committed, self-starting Fellow to provide administrative and programmatic support to the Community Land Protection Program’s partner organization in Mozambique, Centro Terra Viva (CTV). Responsibilities include contributing to program monitoring, writing and editing, administrative and management support, data collection and analysis, strategic program direction, and regular reporting to the Community Land Protection Program Director and Associate. The fellowship offers a unique opportunity to participate in the community land protection process with a national NGO in rural communities.

Duties

The Program Fellow should have significant field experience. He or she will be expected to take initiative, proactively problem-solve, strategize, and build and maintain close working relationships with all Namati and CTV staff. Specific responsibilities include the following:

  • Driving all program monitoring and evaluation efforts, including supporting the baseline and post-service surveys and maintaining and updating CTV’s Community Land Protection Program M&E database
  • Supporting CTV to document all fieldwork and programmatic activities
  • Working with CTV staff to produce formal policy briefs on land tenure security and legal empowerment designed to influence national law and practice
  • Supporting the production of a variety of “how to” manuals for communities, paralegals and NGOs facilitating community land documentation efforts
  • Supporting CTV’s efforts to train other Mozambican NGOs to facilitate community land protection efforts
  • Assisting in the organization of meetings, workshops, stakeholder forums and roundtable debates that promote the nuances of - and need for - community land delimitation work
  • Producing a variety of materials for distribution through Mozambican and international media (radio, newspapers, internet, etc.)
  • Supporting the production of CTV’s quarterly progress reports to Namati
  • Providing general administrative support, among other duties that may arise in the course of the fellowship
Requisites
  • Masters degree or Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university
  • Significant field experience in one or more developing nation(s)
  • Fluency or a high level of proficiency in Portuguese
  • Experience in fieldwork and/or community organizing
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice advocacy
  • Extraordinary writing, analysis and editing skills
  • Clear and concise communication skills
  • Culturally competent, conscientious, thoughtful, humble, respectful of others and sensitive to cultural communication differences
  • Mature, patient and able to be a productive, proactive member of a diverse team
  • Highly organized, with a proven track record of submitting work in a timely fashion
  • An understanding of land tenure issues, specifically customary/indigenous tenure systems and frameworks
  • Excellent computer and technology skills (full Microsoft Office suite and social media platforms)
  • Experience in the principles and methods used in data collection and analysis
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, capable of identifying programming/advocacy needs and taking productive action
  • Proven commitment to building one’s own professional skills and capacity
  • Comfortable living in very basic conditions in rural areas
  • Experience in alternative dispute resolution techniques a plus
