PSI is recruiting a Product Development Engineer, to be based in Nampula, Mozambique.
Description
  • We are looking for an experienced Product Development Engineer, based in Nampula, to help the leadership of the Small Towns Sanitation project adhere to high standards of technical competence and quality in designing, improving, and promoting WASH-related products, service, and innovations
  • The engineer should have strong communication and project management skills, and the ability to improve, create and evaluate products for urban and peri-urban communities in Mozambique
Duties
  • Iterate on existing sanitation product designs to bring down costs and improve function and desirability
  • Design and prototype new product concepts for the urban WASH market, including user interface, containment, and emptying and transport products
  • Provide specifications, design, bills of quantity and quality standards for new and existing WASH products
  • Lead product design processes that include feedback and input from consumers and local producers
  • Build the capacity of private sector actors to build and install high quality sanitation products
  • Develop technical training manuals and guidelines for sanitation products
  • Evaluate the appropriateness and personal and environmental safety of existing and new products
  • Support institutionalization of technical training and quality control within government and private sector institutions
  • Travel to the field and review technical aspects of new product installation within communities/consumers
  • Serve us a technical liaison for communication on technical aspects of WASH products
Requisites
  • MSc in Civil/Water Engineering or related fields
  • At least 5 years of civil engineering experience in WASH, preferably in sanitation
  • Demonstrated experience in technical quality assurance and improvement, with ability to document processes and systems in a digestible way and present them to management and staff
  • Experience building the capacity of other actors to improve product quality
  • Experience with urban sanitation and improving FSM service delivery preferred.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with teams
  • Strong writing and presentation skills, particularly related to technical and market development topics
  • Previous experience in doing similar work in a development context
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory
  • Availability to live and work in Nampula and travel frequently
  • Mozambican nationality
