JOBA is recruiting a Joba – Project Management Intern (m/f), to be based in Maputo, Mozambique.
Description
  • Skills for Employment (locally known as JOBA) is a programme funded by the UK government with the aim of increasing the income of marginalised youth, with an emphasis on young women, through improved access to quality, affordable and market-relevant skills training. JOBA has three components with the following outputs:
  • Component 1: expanded access, especially for disadvantaged school leavers, to affordable, relevant, quality, non-state skills training; through the award of grants made by the Employment Fund, JOBA catalyses and brokers linkages between employers and non-state training providers to provide access to skills training and get young people into work
  • Component 2: strengthened capacity of non-state training providers
  • Component 3: strengthened capacity of the Government of Mozambique to implement the private sector elements of the new TVET law
  • Reflecting JOBA’s commitment to developing skills for employment, JOBA is offering a four-month internship in the area of Project Management. The internship will be a structured learning opportunity for a young Mozambican graduate to develop project management skills through employment with an international company and working on a development programme funded by UK Aid. The internship programme will be managed by the Team Leader. The Project Management Intern will report to the Project Manager
  • The Project Management Intern will be based in Maputo at the JOBA Project Office. The internship is a full-time post within JOBA, starting in July 2019, for a duration of four months. In case of good performance, there is the possibility of being offered a staff position after the internship
  • The overall objective of the Project Management internship is to support implementation of the programme’s management systems and procedures – which includes risk management, financial management, and procurement and contracting. Underpinning these systems and procedures is Mott MacDonald’s internal Business Management System, called STEP. The intern will support the Project Manager with ensuring compliance to STEP
Duties
  • Development and management of the internal programme risk register
  • Support to the management of the external programme risk register
  • Support to monitoring the internal programme budget
  • Procurement/recruitment /contracting of service providers (incl. due diligence)
  • Mobilisation of staff to Mozambique, including the arrangement of internal travel approvals
  • Compliance to training requirements for staff and consultants
  • Preparation of minutes for monthly internal Project Control Meetings
  • Inputs to the writing of reports for the client, on programme management
  • Proper archiving of project records
  • Other tasks, as far as these are within the limits of the intern’s capabilities
Requisites
  • Degree in a relevant area (e.g. Project Management or Business Administration)
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Flexibility, initiative and adaptability, ability and willingness to take on different types of work
  • Portuguese as a first language with excellent writing skills
  • Confident communication and writing skills in English
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good inter-personal skills
