Food Technologist

Gain - Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition

Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition is recruiting a Food Technologist, to be based in Maputo, Mozambique.

Duties
  • Ensure implementation of food safety and quality activities
  • Quality assuring the technical content of project activities, including quality checking technical content of consultancy deliverables
  • Support the LSFF Project Manager with progress monitoring and reporting
  • Support the LSFF Project Manager in ensuring updated information on PMIS in relation to the two projects under the LSFF portfolio
  • Liaise with LSFF team to give adequate support to all external support contracted by GAIN for all services, including ensuring all needed resources are availed on time
  • Other tasks related to the implementation of the LSFF portfolio as required by the GAIN Mozambique LSFF manager
  • Support other GAIN programs as required, Key Organizational Relationships: GAIN Mozambique country team, UNICEF nutrition team, National Industry Directorate (DNI), INNOQ, National Laboratory for hygiene, water and food (LNHAA), National Inspection of Economic Activities (INAE), Mozambican Food Production Industry, Other Organizational Relationships, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Ministry of Health, Development partners (WFP, HKI, Irish Aid, USAID, EU)
Requisites
  • Knowledge on how to operationalize risk-based process control and food safety management systems (such as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Critical Control Point (HACCP)
  • Knowledge on developing and conducting trainings on food safety and quality
  • Knowledge on regulatory monitoring and food inspection
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of professionalism and integrity
  • Systematic thinking with demonstrated good sense of judgment, problem solving and creativity
  • Computer literacy with good Excel, MS Word, Outlook, and Power Point skills
  • At least 3 years of experience in working with Food Safety, including development of SOPs and auditing
  • Experience in Food Quality Assurance and Management
  • Experience in working with local food producers in Mozambique an advantage
  • Experience in working with food industry in Mozambique an advantage
  • Experience in project management preferred
  • Experience in working with government officials in Mozambique an advantage
  • Experience in coordination and consensus building within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience in working under pressure and to deliver under short deadlines
  • Master degree in Food technology, Food science or related area
  • Fluent written and verbal Portuguese
  • Fluent written and verbal English
  • Right to work in Mozambique
