NovAfrica is recruiting a Field Research Associate, to be based in Manica, Sofala, and Zambézia, Mozambique.

  • Prof. Dean Yang seeks qualified applicants for a position as Research Associate for a project in central Mozambique (Manica, Sofala, and Zambézia)
  • The project is in the health sector and will focus on health and economic (microfinance) interventions for orphans and vulnerable children with a large focus on HIV/AIDS interventions; The partner survey implementing organization in Mozambique is Novafrica
  • The position will offer an opportunity to gain first-hand field management experience in a cutting-edge development research project
  • The Field Research Associate will work closely with academic researchers and other field staff to perform a variety tasks including, but not limited to: designing survey questionnaires, conducting qualitative research, running pilot exercises, refining study design and survey instruments, supervising survey teams, programming survey forms, checking and analyzing data, cleaning data and assisting in preliminary analysis, assisting in the writing of project reports and policy memos, and coordinating with local partners running the programs being evaluated
  • Start Date: November - December 2017 (some flexibility, ideal would be earlier in this date range)
  • Length of Commitment: One year
Requisites
  • A Master’s degree in Economics, Social Sciences, Public Policy, or related fields; Training in Microeconomics and Econometrics/Statistics strongly preferred Candidates with a Bachelor’s in a related field and substantial experience will also be considered
  • Good knowledge of STATA and familiarity with mobile data collection technologies
  • Familiarity with randomized controlled trials
  • Fluency and excellent communication skills in English, fluent or advanced Portuguese
  • Excellent management and organizational skills along with strong quantitative skills
  • Past experience living in a developing country and working in the health and/or microfinance sectors is a strong plus
  • Flexible, self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and team player
  • Demonstrated ability to manage high-level relationships with partner organizations
