CONTACT is recruiting an Environmental Field Lead, to be based in Pemba, Mozambique.
Duties
- Reporting to the Environmental Site Manager and the Site HSE Manager, the main activities of the environmental field lead are to: establish and implement internal environmental audit protocols; conduct internal environmental audits and support external environmental audits as well as pre and post audit action tracking
- Manage implementation of associated facilities requirements (company and all contractors), including screening, management system process, training, contractor interface and reporting; develop and maintain a site environmental management system that ensures compliance to applicable environmental laws, regulations and standards is met and consistently documented
- Establish an environmental verification and assurance (V&A) program and developing the necessary tools, including procedures and checklists to support the implementation; undertake and maintain a project onsite environmental risk assessment, as well as, identifying and proposing measures to manage risk
- Update contractor environmental monthly reporting templates and manage consolidated environmental reporting database; develop environmental performance metrics, analyse them, and regularly report trends to ensure continuous improvement
- Create and maintain environmental key performance indicators (KPI) dashboard and environmental non-conformance register; develop systems and tools to ensure site environmental performance reporting data is systematically collected, recorded and readily available when required
- Develop and implement environmental performance improvement initiatives, including conducting readiness reviews for external environmental audits / site visits; support reviews of contractor’s environmental management plans to ensure they meet relevant requirements; providing on-going QA/QC of environmental data and reports (internal and contractors data and reports)
Requisites
- University degree in Natural or Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Engineering, or some other technical field related to ESMS management
- At least 10+ years of related experience is required
- Experience with environmental management in the construction, extractive or O&G industry
- Experience with Environmental Management System implementation on large scale projects, including extensive experience completing environmental audits
- Experience in Financed Project requirements, i.e. IFC requirements
- Knowledge of relevant Mozambique regulations is desirable
- Excellent English speaking and writing skills required, familiarity with Portuguese is desirable
- Living in the local area of the job is an advantage
