DAI is recruiting a Consultant (m/f), to be based in Pemba, Mozambique.
Description
  • DAI Global, LLC is implementing the Mozambique Community Resilience Program (MCRP), an USAID/OTI funded program, in Cabo Delgado. Escalating instability in northern Mozambique along with community and local government’s inability to manage and mitigate the increase in violence are threatening regional stability and private sector investment in the province. MCRP supports a range of activities in Cabo Delgado focused on social and economic development, conflict mitigation, and preventing/countering violent extremism (P/CVE). The goal of MCRP is to empower communities in northern Mozambique to be more capable of managing conflict by deepening their understanding of Violence and Extremism (VE) threats demonstrating approaches to strengthening community conflict management capacity
  • DAI is looking in Pemba for someone fluent in both Portuguese and English, with experience in translating written material in a semi-formal or journalistic tone. Familiarity with the subject matter, including technology, innovation, would be extremely helpful
  • This is a based contract consultant, 2-day work week from 8.00am to 5.00pm. Duration of contract is six months, with the possibility of extension. There are two schemes offered, Salary based on daily rates
Duties
  • Translation of documents, including complex contracts (Portuguese to English or vice versa) with regulatory language, delivered two days a week
  • Perform bilingual (Portuguese & English) translation for content, text or articles
  • Translate bilingual (Portuguese & English) subtitles of video clips to text or vice versa. Video editing skills preferred
  • Proofread translated texts for grammar, spelling, and punctuation accuracy
  • Retain the literature's essence in the translation process while maintaining the author's original intention and message
  • Explore methods to increase the translation's productivity and quality
  • Ability to perform simultaneous interpretation for staff during meetings, or field visits is preferred but not required. Candidates are encouraged to provide explanation of simultaneous translation capabilities, if applicable
Requisites
  • Excellent in both Portuguese and English communication and writing (In order to liaise with the Portuguese speaking associates)
  • Proven work experience as a Translator, Interpreter or equivalent
  • Time-management skills to meet tight deadlines, and ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent proofreading skills with the ability to identify grammar, spelling and punctuation errors
  • Required Skill(s): Good written linguistic abilities, proficient in language software, computer literate in Microsoft Suite, and Nitro PDF reader
  • Must be able to use translation memory software (brief training provided)
  • Relevant experience working on community resilience issues in Northern Mozambique, or on a USAID contract in a related role highly preferred
