Onstream is recruiting a Civil Site Supervisor, to be based in Pemba.

Duties
  • The Site supervisor / Clerk of Works will ensure that all projects are completed to the highest quality, encompassing the philosophy of zero defects and continuous improvement. This position is for someone who is both fluent in English and Portuguese
  • The projects will be completed in accordance with contract documentation, and Design and Quality Standards set in the contract documents
  • Review pre-contract documents and make recommendations for amendments to ensure compliance with the Design Brief, Design and Quality Standards and project brief, whilst ensuring that the development will be of a high quality and will be fit for purpose whilst offering value for money
  • Review contract documents and become familiar with the requirements for each scheme
  • Ensure that the site is visited and inspected on a permanent basis and record details of visits on the Quality Report. Ensure that the Quality Report is prepared on a weekly basis and is shared with appropriate client departments / Matrix Partners utilising appropriate IT facilities
  • Attend site meetings including the presentation of the Clerk of Works report. Liaise with Regeneration staff, Matrix Partners and consultants to highlight and resolve any identified or anticipated construction or quality problems and to assist in the administration of the contract
  • Monitor contractors and consultants performance in order to contribute to reviews. Liaise with the project lead and contract administrator, contractors, trainees and staff in others as required. Undertake pre-handover defects inspections with the contractor and consultant to prepare \"snagging lists\"
  • Attend handover inspections to ensure that all works are satisfactorily completed prior to handover taking place. Assist in resolving defects problems during the defects liability period
  • Attend retention inspections with consultants and arrange for lists of defects to be prepared for forwarding to contractors. Monitor completion of retention defects in liaison with team members
  • Prepare construction programmes following information attained from the contractor / contract administrator and parties involved
  • Evaluate tender submissions with lead architect
  • Be proactive with contractors and liaise with them accordingly for instructions on site
Requisites
  • Recognised technical qualification in the building industry
  • Practical experience in the building industry
  • Experience in a new build, industrial and office building projects in Africa (Mozambique preferable, but not essential)
  • Excellent knowledge of health and safety legislation
  • Understanding of building contracts and the role of the Clerk of Works / site supervisor under the contract
  • The ability to identify technical problems on site and to recommend solutions and corrective action to the relevant person
  • Full drivers licence or the ability to travel easily to and from multiple sites. On a day to day basis this will be on site
  • The ability to utilise IT hardware and software solutions effectively
  • As this position will require you to access all areas of buildings under construction, it is a requirement that the applicant must be willing and able to climb ladders and negotiate a safe route around a building site
  • English and Portuguese both written and spoken fluently
Desirable Skills / Experience
  • Membership of the Institute of Clerk of Works or other relevant professional body
  • Experience of modern methods of construction
  • Experience in a similar position
  • Good knowledge of european / US design and quality standards and current building regulations
  • Completed relevant supplementary training
