Business Advisor – Fruit and Cashew, Oilseeds and Pulses

TechnoServe Mozambique is one of TechnoServe’s largest programs, with a 15-year continuous presence and an excellent reputation for catalyzing transformational change in Mozambique.

This is an anticipated USAID/Mozambique Feed the Future program, a potential 5-year effort, which, if awarded to TechnoServe, would be expected to begin in late 2013 or early 2014 focusing primarily in the Nacala and Beira corridors. The project intends to increase smallholder incomes by promoting market-oriented, competitive businesses in priority food and cash crop sectors namely oilseeds/pulses, fruit and cashew value chains.


TechnoServe is looking for two (2) Business Advisors, to be based in one of the provincial offices (Nampula or Chimoio) with frequent travel to the field and to Nampula and Maputo. Each Business Advisor has demonstrated practical knowledge and expertise in their value chain, and is responsible for day-to-day implementation of project activities, working directly with client businesses as well as with farmers as required. They should have solid overall knowledge of the value chain, including production, post-harvest, processing, marketing etc. and an excellent network in the industry at a national and regional level.

  • 5-10 years relevant industry experience, preferably within the private sector
  • Excellent technical knowledge in at least one of the following: production and harvesting; processing; marketing and quality standards; or a solid overall knowledge of all aspects
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, as well as an ability to work collaboratively and gain results advising clients
  • Excellent national and regional industry network
  • Innovative, creative, solution-oriented
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a relevant field
  • Portuguese or Spanish language ability preferred
