TechnoServe is recruiting an Agriculture Technology and Data Management Specialist, to be based in Boane and Maputo, Mozambique.
Description
  • The Agriculture Technology and Data Management Specialist will be based primarily at the ATDC in Boane, with at least one day per week spent at the TechnoServe office in Maputo City
Duties
  • The Agriculture Technology and Data Management Specialist will be responsible for the management and documentation of the four-step ATDC Technology Transfer Model for the project in Mozambique. The Agriculture Technology and Data Management Specialist’s role is:
  • To lead in designing and carrying out an assessment of smallholder farmer (SHF) priority technology needs in the target areas
  • Working closely with ATDC management, to support and document the process of identifying, testing and evaluating improved technologies at the ATDC, ensuring compliance with the Government of Mozambique and TechnoServe standards
  • To develop, roll out and maintain a comprehensive data management and data collection reporting system to capture all learnings from the technology transfer component of the project
  • To support the ATDC to engage with local research institutes, private sector companies, and NGO projects to identify, test, and evaluate technology solutions which might be a good fit with the needs of Mozambican SHFs
  • To contribute to the development and dissemination of training-of-trainers (TOTs) programs and materials on selected technologies
  • To support capacity building of ATDC management and staff to implement ATDC Technology Transfer Model (TTM) process, including the development of various frameworks and tools
  • To support the dissemination of results and lessons learned from the TTM to relevant stakeholders
  • Specific core responsibilities include:
  • Identify relevant technologies to demonstrate and pilot for the indigenous poultry sector
  • Conduct and manage the smallholder farmer needs assessment
  • Develop training materials and participate in the training of beneficiaries (extensionists and SHFs) taking part in the Project
  • Monitor and evaluate the success of the technology pilots which will contribute to the strategy to scale-up implementation
  • Assist the Program Manager in the implementation of program strategy and activities in accordance with overall programmatic practices (donor relations, communications, and visibility, special projects, reporting)
  • Assist in the effective monitoring and evaluation of program activities including monitoring technology testing and transfer processes farmer demonstration and pilot plots in detail
Requisites
  • Mozambican citizen or right to work in Mozambique
  • Degree in Agricultural Science with a specification in Animal Husbandry or related discipline, Masters preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience in the agriculture sector, in the Government, NGO sector or in the private sector; experience with donor funded grant projects is an advantage
  • Proven experience working in the vegetable value chain with knowledge in vegetable production, preferably in southern Mozambique
  • Strong knowledge of agriculture landscape and agribusiness in Mozambique and experience working at the community level with small-holder farmers (SHFs)
  • Strategy development and implementation, and development of strategic partnerships is an added advantage
  • Results oriented, with proven success in working to achieve targets; some experience with monitoring and evaluation for agriculture projects is an advantage
  • Strong analytical skills, including quantitative skills
  • Proven skills as working in teams, and ability to build consensus among colleagues and stakeholders
  • Strong skills in business software (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills in a multi-cultural environment
  • Ability to develop well-written, cohesive analyses and reports
  • Oral fluency in English; capacity to produce high quality reports in English is an advantage
