  • Overall purpose: The Cabo Delgado Food Systems Strengthening Programme is funded by the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and operates across Cabo Delgado, Nampula and Zambézia
  • The Administrative Driver provides safe, reliable and professional transport services to the programme team, supporting field missions, meetings, partner engagement and programme implementation activities
  • The position holder is responsible for ensuring that the assigned vehicle is operated safely, maintained in good working conditions and used in compliance with GAIN’s vehicle management, security and administrative procedures
  • In addition to driving duties, the Administrative Driver provides light logistical and administrative support during field missions, including transporting programme materials, delivering documents, supporting the loading and unloading equipment and assisting the programme team as required
  • This role requires a reliable, punctual, safety-conscious and trustworthy individual who is familiar with road conditions in northern Mozambique and able to remain calm and professional during long-distance travel and challenging field conditions
Duties
Transport and field support
  • Transport programme staff safely and punctually to field sites, meetings, partner offices and other authorized destinations across Cabo Delgado and, when required, Nampula and Zambézia
  • Plan routes considering road conditions, weather and security information, and communicate concerns to the Admin and Finance Assistant before departure
  • Assist with loading, transport and unloading of programme materials and equipment, ensuring goods are secured and protected, and providing light logistical support during field missions
Vehicle management and maintenance
  • Conduct vehicle checks before every journey, covering fuel, oil, brakes, lights, tyres and safety equipment, and immediately report defects or mechanical concerns
  • Maintain the vehicle in a clean, roadworthy condition, monitor service and insurance schedules, and coordinate approved service with authorized mechanics
  • Ensure the vehicle is securely parked and locked when not in use and maintain control of vehicle keys and documentation
Logbook, compliance and safety
  • Maintain an accurate vehicle logbook for every journey, recording destinations, mileage, fuel consumption and any incidents, and submit fuel receipts and supporting documents on time
  • Follow GAIN's security protocols and travel procedures, complete required check-ins during field travel, and comply with Mozambican traffic laws and road-safety requirements at all times
  • Report accidents, traffic incidents or security incidents immediately, and never transport unauthorized passengers, goods or drivers
Administrative and logistical support
  • Support the collection and delivery of programme documents, correspondence and small equipment, and assist with basic logistical arrangements for meetings and field activities
  • Assist the Admin and Finance Assistant in maintaining vehicle-related records and support basic procurement and delivery follow-up tasks involving transport
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding staff movements, programme locations and transported documents
  • Key Organizational Relationships:
  • Reports to the Project Manager
  • Close collaboration with GAIN programme and operations teams
  • Verified and approved external partners
Requisites
  • Ability to exercise and understand passenger safety, and proper use of organisational vehicle and assets
  • Effective time-management and organizational skills, ensuring punctual movements, timely deliveries, and adherence to approved schedules
  • Uses programme vehicles, fuel and organizational resources honestly and responsibly
  • Proficient in navigation and route-planning tools (e.g., GPS and mobile map applications) to accurately locate destinations and manage travel time
  • A collaborative and professional approach towards both internal and external stakeholders in the course of duty
  • Demonstrated record of safe driving and responsible vehicle use
  • Experience:
  • Demonstrated professional driving experience in both private sector and NGO environments, with familiarity in adhering to organizational transport policies and service standards
  • Proven experience supporting routine administrative functions, including document handling, dispatch support, and basic office errands
  • Experience and knowledge of terrain within implementation zones such as Cabo Delgado, Nampula, Zambézia or other parts of northern Mozambique
  • Experience maintaining vehicle logbooks, fuel records and fleet-management documentation
  • Education:
  • Minimum of a High School Certificate or equivalent qualification
  • A Diploma in Logistics, Transport Management, or a related field will be considered an added advantage
  • Basic training in vehicle maintenance or mechanics is an advantage
  • Other requirements:
  • Valid Mozambican driving license, Category B at minimum; Category C or D is an advantage
  • Clean driving record, with no major traffic violations or serious accidents during the previous three years
  • Defensive-driving and first-aid certification are an advantage, and willingness to undertake related training
  • Practical knowledge of basic vehicle mechanics and ability to communicate problems clearly to mechanics and supervisors
  • Working proficiency in Portuguese; knowledge of Makhuwa, Emakhuwa, Shimakonde or other local languages is a strong advantage
  • Physically able to undertake long-distance travel, with flexibility for early departures, overnight stays and occasional weekend travel
  • Ability to work effectively in remote, post-conflict and security-sensitive environments, and commitment to GAIN's Code of Conduct and safeguarding standards
