Nelson Uate is a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Master of Public Health (MPH) and currently doing master’s in international healthcare management at IU of Applied Sciences-Germany. He has 12 years of experience in international and national public health management, focusing on TB, HIV, Malaria management and epidemic outbreaks, Digital health, Consultancies, and health community rights & gender (CRG) in the SADC region and Sierra Leone. Has served as a regional manager for the Southern Africa Malaria Elimination 8 Initiative, (Mozambique, South Africa, Eswatini, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Zambia) a collaborative initiative bringing together eight countries in southern Africa, pushing boundaries as they pursued malaria elimination. Nelson currently also serves as a provincial (Maputo Province) health program coordinator at Centro de Colaboração em Saúde-CCS. At CCS he ensures high-quality technical assistance and coordination for three community programs: TB, HIV and Health Rights, a cornerstone for the provincial directorate of health, as well as the district teams, provincial partnerships, and program portfolio, as well as serving as an international health consultant for community, rights, and gender (CRG)-UNOPS. He has also worked as Malaria Clinical Coordinator for PATH/MALARIACARE in Zambezia, Tete, Nampula and Cabo Delgado. Nelson previously served as HIV care & treatment adviser for Friends in Global Health (FGH), Senior Deputy Partnership officer for health (proposal writer and negotiator) at ADPP, lastly, Nelson began his career as a district medical officer of Moamba district, having 7 peripheral facilities under his belt.
