UNION ENERGY MOZAMBIQUE, LDA is recruiting a Legal Counsel – Litigation & Business Risk, to be based in Maputo, Mozambique.
Duties
- Handle the company’s day-to-day legal matters, including contract review, legal risk identification, and business compliance support;
- Manage and follow up on litigation, arbitration, and enforcement cases involving the company, liaising with courts, banks, and relevant authorities;
- Assess legal risks in ongoing and potential disputes and provide clear, practical legal advice to management;
- Prepare, organize, and submit legal documents, evidence, and compliance materials as required;
- Support legal compliance related to fund flows, banking matters, foreign exchange, and related regulatory issues;
- Work closely with finance, operations, and commercial teams on legal issues involving clients and suppliers;
- Monitor changes in local laws and regulations and assess their impact on the company’s business;
- Coordinate with external lawyers, courts, banks, and government authorities when necessary.
Requisites
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Law; legal qualification is preferred;
- Experience as an in-house legal counsel or in a law firm, with hands-on experience in litigation or dispute resolution preferred;
- Solid understanding of contract law, company law, and civil/commercial litigation procedures; experience with enforcement proceedings and banking-related matters is a strong advantage; experience in the purchase of company assets such as land and real estate, and company debt recovery is preferred;
- Strong legal analysis and judgment skills, with the ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice;
- Detail-oriented, with strong document management and evidence-handling capabilities;
- Able to work independently while maintaining effective cross-department communication;
- English can be used as a working language for legal and business communication;
- Strong sense of responsibility and ability to adapt to a fast-paced operational environment.
