CONTACT is recruiting a Fisheries Programs Officer, to be based in Palma, Mozambique.
Duties
- Reporting to the Fisheries Livelihoods Coordinator, the Fisheries Programs Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day field facilitation, supervision and oversight of fisheries livelihood restoration activities implemented under the Resettlement Plan
- Monitoring and verifying field activities carried out by Implementation Partners (IPs); ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, including scope of work, reporting and Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) requirements; verifying and certifying the distribution of fishing kits and other in-kind benefits to affected households
- Facilitating community engagement, mobilization and participation in fisheries livelihood programs; acting as the daily focal point between the Project, IPs, affected fishers and host communities; and reporting progress to ensure timely, high-quality and compliant implementation
- Covers activities related to fisheries development, post-harvest fisheries, installation and monitoring of Fish Aggregation Devices (FADs), seaweed development, sea cucumber culture, fisheries infrastructure consultation and construction, fisheries co-management, monitoring and data collection
- Participate in meetings with Government entities, communities and households, and perform any other tasks requested by the Fisheries Livelihoods Coordinator
Requisites
- University degree in Fisheries Development, Oceanography, Marine Biology, Aquaculture, Rural Development, Coastal Management, Environmental Studies or related fields
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in community engagement and livelihood restoration and development programs
- Experience in managing and monitoring Implementation Partners in the field
- Ability to assess, prioritize and respond to urgent situations in a timely manner
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with communities, government authorities, IPs and NGOs/CSOs
- Fluent oral and written knowledge of English and Portuguese required
- Ability to communicate in Kiswahili, Kimaconde, Emakwe, Kimwane, Makua or Makue will be an advantage
- Possession of a valid driving license will be an advantage
- Mozambican nationality
