English/Portuguese Language Instructor

US Embassy is recruiting a English/Portuguese Language Instructor, to be based in Maputo.

Duties

• Incumbent serves as the English Language Instructor for LE Staff members, and backs up the Portuguese language instructors who serve US Direct Hires and Eligible Family Members (EFMs) of the U.S. Mission Maputo, Mozambique

Requisites

• Completion of a college degree in education, linguistics, and/or language interpretation is required
• A minimum of two years’ experience in training, teaching, or language instruction, utilizing instructional design principles and techniques
• Level IV (fluency – reading, writing, speaking) proficiency in written and spoken English is required
• A minimum of Level V (native/fluency) Portuguese is required
• A thorough knowledge of grammar, syntax, idiom and pronunciation of English/ Portuguese Language
• Must have demonstrated knowledge of various methodologies for teaching English and Portuguese as a foreign language
• Must be sensitive to nuances when translating documents between English and Portuguese
• Good knowledge of programs and materials concerning language teaching
• Good skills in English and Portuguese language and teaching methods
• Strong Language and Communication Skills. Ability to communicate effectively with students in order to retain their interest and motivation and to assist them in developing their language ability and by designing programs according to individual needs
• Ability to motivate students as well as maintain strict confidentiality when performing personnel duties
